We’ll take you around Karlovac, the area that has been inhabited for countless centuries, that is fertile and rich in cultural and natural beauty. Whether you are a regular hiker or a casual stroller, this trail is going to take you back to nature and do wonders for your body and soul.
The Four Karlovac Rivers Trail has been devised and marked by the HPD ‘Martinščak’ members and is a great opportunity for some vigorous physical activity, as well as a means of getting to know the Karlovac area. It crosses all the four rivers – the Kupa, Dobra, Mrežnica and Korana Rivers, and in that is the best reflection of Karlovac’s unique symbols.
The trail begins in Donje Pokuplje, on the Kupa River bank, takes us along the Dobra and Mrežnica valleys, and ends on the Korana, at Cerovac Vukmanićki. Hikers will have the opportunity to see the area of valuable cultural and historical heritage, with some of the preserved traditional Croatian houses typical of this region, family-owned farms and centuries old chapels. It is the so-called Karlovac Green Belt, dominated by agricultural areas, woods and forests, with villages featuring preserved rural entities.
The trail is around 30 km long and takes up some 12 hours of relaxed walk. You can also walk only along some of its parts, depending on your current form or your inclinations. You can also cycle along this trail, especially in dry weather, hopping off the bike and pushing it along some stretches in the woods of Goisko, Kozjača and Vinica. The main advantage of cycling is the fact that it takes three times less time to go along the whole trail and one does not depend on other means of transportation.
